> If a goods receipt contained a mistake or additional costs were entered after a sale, the cost price in sales is updated by reposting documents. Bimp does a full repost automatically after midnight; to see the result right away, open the sales document in "Sales → Sales" and post it again.

## Why cost price needs recalculating

A [goods receipt](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/purchasing/goods-receipt/) (incoming invoice) forms the cost price of goods, and any mistake in it — currency, price, rate, date — carries over to all later operations: sales, write-offs, transfers, production. If there were already sales after the incorrect receipt, reports show the wrong cost price. Simply changing a number is not enough: Bimp has to repost the period from scratch.

> [!TIP]
> Check the currency and rate before you finally post a goods receipt. For a preliminary check of the figures, use the "Draft" status.

## How to fix an error in an incoming document

1. Create a new correct goods receipt document. Its date must be the same as that of the incorrect one, or earlier.
2. Archive or cancel the incorrect document — see [How to delete or archive a document](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/basics/archive-and-delete/).
3. Run the repost: Bimp rewrites the warehouse movements one after another from the correction date to the present moment — see [How to repost a document](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/basics/repost-document/).

The procedure depends on the accounting method in the company settings — see [Accounting settings](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/getting-started/accounting-settings/):

| Accounting | What happens |
|---|---|
| Average cost or FIFO | after reposting, Bimp automatically recalculates the cost price in outgoing documents |
| Batch accounting | extra care is needed: replacing a receipt creates a new batch, so you may have to re-link the goods manually in outgoing documents |

> [!WARNING]
> With batch accounting, simply replacing a receipt does not change the batch in sales that are already posted. This can lead to negative balances in warehouses.

## When recalculation happens automatically

The mass recalculation of cost price runs in the background: automatically during nightly maintenance (after 00:00) or on request to technical support. So if you do not need the new figures urgently after correcting a large amount of data, it is better to wait for the nightly update so as not to load the system during working hours.

## Additional costs (VAT, logistics) were added after a sale

If you sold the goods before you entered the VAT or logistics document, the cost price in that sale is updated the following night: additional costs are allocated to the batch of goods, and even if the goods are already sold, the nightly repost updates the financial result of the deal. See [Additional costs](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/costing/additional-costs/).

## How to update cost price manually

To see the current cost price and margin immediately:

1. Open **Sales → Sales** and find the document the goods were sold with.
2. Open it and post it again.

Bimp instantly recalculates the cost price using the new incoming prices. To avoid discrepancies in analytics during the day, enter additional costs documents as early as possible. You can check the result in the "Gross profit" report — see [Gross profit](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/reports/gross-profit-report/). For reposting after a change to the VAT setting, see the article [Cost price without VAT](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/costing/cost-without-vat/).

## FAQ

**When does Bimp recalculate cost price automatically?**

A full repost of documents runs automatically after midnight. Changes made during the day reach previously created sales the following night.

**How do I see the updated cost price right after a correction?**

Open the sales document in "Sales → Sales" and post it again: the cost price is recalculated instantly.

**Can I simply change the price in a posted goods receipt?**

Changing the source document is not enough: the system has to "replay" the period, that is, repost the related movements from the correction date to today.
