> The settlement rate in a contract defines the rate at which Bimp converts price list prices into the contract currency for a particular customer. In the contract, select the currency, the rate type ("NBU", "Interbank" or "Commercial") and the adjustment percentage: the price is calculated as the rate plus the percentage.

## Why you need a settlement rate in a contract

The settlement rate in a contract lets you fix the rate formula for a customer once, and Bimp then fills the correct numbers into orders by itself. You need this when the [price list](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/pricing/price-lists/) is in USD or EUR and the customer pays in hryvnias. Different customers have different terms: government bodies calculate at the NBU rate, dealers at the interbank rate, retail at the commercial rate plus a percentage for risk.

**Example.** The company's price list is in euros. The customer "Agro-Star" buys a tractor for 50,000 EUR and pays in hryvnias with a 5-day deferral. The agreed rate is "Interbank + 2%". The interbank rate is 42.00, with the percentage 42.84. Invoice: 50,000 × 42.84 = 2,142,000 UAH.

## How to set up the settlement rate

Set the rate in the counterparty's contract.

1. Open **Counterparties**, select the customer and go to the "Contracts" tab.
2. Open an existing contract or create a new one, see [Customer contract](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/counterparties/customer-contract/).
3. In the "Currency" field, specify the payment currency (for example, UAH), even if the price list is in dollars.
4. In the "Settlement rate" field, select the rate source.
5. In the "% to settlement rate" field, enter the adjustment percentage. If you enter 2, the rate will be "base + 2%".
6. Click **Save**.

| Rate | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| "NBU" | The official rate of the National Bank, updated automatically every day |
| "Interbank" | The market interbank rate, updated automatically |
| "Commercial" | The company's internal rate, set manually by an employee in the currencies directory; if it was not changed today, the previous day's value applies |

For the currencies directory, see [Currencies and rates](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/getting-started/currencies-and-rates/).

## How the rate is applied in an order

When a manager creates a customer order and selects the customer and contract, Bimp converts the foreign-currency price automatically.

1. If the price list price is in a foreign currency (for example, $100), Bimp checks the contract settings (for example, "NBU" + 1%).
2. The system converts $100 into hryvnias at the NBU rate for the current day and adds 1%.
3. The resulting amount is filled into the document.

A foreign-currency price list is described in [Prices by exchange rate](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/pricing/prices-by-exchange-rate/), and orders in [Customer order](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/sales/customer-order/).

> [!TIP] Create several contracts with different terms for one customer: choosing a contract in the order immediately changes the rate and the final price.

## FAQ

**Where does Bimp get the NBU and interbank rates?**

The NBU and interbank rates are loaded automatically every day from official sources. The commercial rate is entered by the company manually in the currencies directory.

**What happens if the commercial rate was not changed today?**

Bimp uses the last value that was set, that is, the previous day's rate.

**Can one customer have different rates?**

Yes. Create several contracts with different terms, for example "Prepayment contract" with the NBU rate and "Deferral contract" with the commercial rate. By choosing a contract in the order, you change the final price.
