> A supplier contract sets the settlement currency, the rule for converting price list prices and the payment deferral. Create it in the supplier card on the "Contracts" tab, select "With supplier" in "Contract with", set the currency and settlement rate using one of three scenarios and save.

## What a supplier contract sets up

A supplier contract defines the currency in which the debt is kept, how to convert foreign-currency [price list](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/pricing/price-lists/) prices and how many days you have to pay. This gives an accurate purchase [cost price](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/costing/cost-price-guide/). The general principles of contracts (the "Project → Contract" structure, main and non-main contracts) are described in [Customer contract](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/counterparties/customer-contract/).

## How to create a supplier contract

Create the contract in the supplier card on the "Contracts" tab.

1. Open **Counterparties** and find the supplier card.
2. Go to the "Contracts" tab, open a project (for example, "Main project") and click **Add**.
3. Fill in the contract form:
   - "Name", an internal name following the formula "Currency + Organization + Price list", for example "EUR_LLC-Import_Fabrics";
   - "Print name", for example the number of the official contract from the paper documents;
   - "Currency", the settlement currency in which you pay or record the debt;
   - "Contract type", "Main" or "Non-main";
   - "Contract with", select "With supplier";
   - "Organization", your legal entity that receives the goods;
   - "Price list", the supplier's price list, if there is one;
   - "Settlement rate" and "% to settlement rate", filled in when the price list currency differs from the contract currency;
   - "Payment deferral days", how many days the supplier gives for payment after the goods are received.
4. Click **Save**.

## Which settings to choose for typical purchases

The currency and rate settings depend on where the supplier is located and which currency the prices are fixed in.

| Scenario | Currency | Settlement rate | % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ukrainian supplier, price list in USD, payment in hryvnias at the interbank rate + 1% | USD | "Interbank" | 1 |
| Ukrainian supplier, prices in hryvnias | UAH | Not needed (1:1) | Empty |
| Import from a foreign supplier in EUR | EUR | Usually "NBU" | Usually 0 |

**Scenario 1.** A product costs $100 in the price list, the interbank rate is 40 UAH. Bimp adds 1% and puts a price of 4,040 UAH into the purchase.

**Scenario 2.** The price list price equals the invoice price, with no conversion. This fully matches the source documents.

**Scenario 3.** The debt in the order and in settlements is kept in euros, while for warehouse accounting and financial reports the product value is converted into hryvnias at the [NBU rate](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/getting-started/currencies-and-rates/) on the posting date. For import contracts, it is important to specify "Payment deferral days" to control the currency control deadlines. For more about imports, see [Purchasing from a foreign supplier](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/purchasing/foreign-currency-purchase/).

## What happens after saving

The contract becomes available in supplier orders and goods receipts, see [Supplier order](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/purchasing/purchase-order/). Bimp converts prices from the price list currency into the contract currency according to the rate rules, and the planned payment date is calculated from the deferral. How the settlement rate works is described in [Individual exchange rate in a contract](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/counterparties/contract-exchange-rates/).

## FAQ

**How does a supplier contract differ from a customer contract?**

The settings are the same, but in the "Contract with" field you select "With supplier", and the terms apply to supplier orders and goods receipts rather than to sales.

**Which currency should I choose if the supplier's price list is in USD but we pay in hryvnias?**

In the "Currency" field, select the settlement currency (UAH), and in the "Settlement rate" field the rate type (for example, "Interbank") and the markup percentage. Bimp will convert the price list prices into the contract currency.

**Why specify payment deferral days in a supplier contract?**

It gives the planned payment date in purchase documents, and the finance department sees the settlement deadlines.
