> Stock posting is a document that adds goods to a warehouse without an order and without a supplier: surpluses after a stock count, returns, manual entry of balances. Create it under **Warehouse → Stock posting** with the **Create** button or from a stock count with the status "New", choose an income item, add goods with the cost price and warehouse, and save.

## When you need Stock posting

The "Stock posting" document records the receipt of goods into a warehouse when there is no preceding [supplier order](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/purchasing/purchase-order/) or no supplier at all. Typical cases:

- surpluses were found during a stock count;
- goods were returned by a customer and must be entered into the records manually;
- goods received free of charge or demonstration samples;
- manual entry of new items into the records.

The document avoids discrepancies in reporting and "gray zones" in inventory records. For goods from a supplier, use [Goods receipt](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/purchasing/goods-receipt/). How all warehouse documents fit together is shown in the [inventory overview](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/inventory/inventory-overview/).

## How to create the document

A Stock posting is created in one of three ways:

1. In the **Warehouse** section on the **Stock posting** tab, click **Create**.
2. From a stock count: open the [stock count](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/inventory/stock-count/) document with the status "New" and in the "Create based on" menu choose **Stock posting**.
3. In the **Warehouse** section on the **Other documents** tab, click **Create** and choose **Stock posting**.

> [!WARNING] A Stock posting [based on](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/basics/create-based-on/) a stock count can be created only while the stock count status is "New".

## How to fill in the document

1. In the "Main" panel on the left, leave "Document number" empty and the system will assign a sequential number, or enter it manually.
2. "Creation date" is set automatically and can be changed.
3. Choose the "Income item" that the posting is recorded under (a required field). The directory of items is described in [Income and expense items](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/getting-started/income-and-expense-items/).
4. In the "Responsible person" field, specify the user responsible for the operation; if you leave it empty, the document author is filled in.
5. The "Base document" field appears only for a document created based on another one (for example, a stock count).
6. On the "Goods, services" tab, click **Add** and choose a product. The recorded quantity is filled in automatically.
7. Specify the "Cost price" per unit, "Warehouse", "Line of business" and "Project".
8. Save the document.

## What happens after saving

The balance of the chosen product in the specified warehouse increases by the quantity in the document as of the document date, and the unit [cost price](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/costing/cost-price-guide/) is taken from your row. You can see the result in the [Stock movement report](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/reports/stock-movement-report/).
