> A kit in Bimp is one product card whose components are all reserved and written off from the warehouse when it is sold. To create a kit, tick "Kit" in a new product card (only during creation), add components on the "Kit contents" tab, specify the quantity and cost shares, and save.

## What a kit is

A kit (set) is a product that is sold as one line but written off from the warehouse as several items. For example, a "Dinner set" consists of one large plate, one deep bowl and one cup. The cashier sells one set, the customer gets one line on the receipt, and the stock balances of all three products decrease.

When a kit is added to a customer order or receipt, Bimp automatically reserves and writes off all its components in the specified quantity.

## How to create a kit

1. In the **Warehouse** module, open **Products and services** and click **+ Product**.
2. Fill in the main fields (name, SKU, [unit of measure](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/products/units-of-measure/)) as for a regular [product](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/products/products-and-services/).
3. Under the "Type" field, tick **Kit**. You can do this only when creating the card.
4. Save the card if the interface requires it before you add contents, and go to the "Kit contents" tab.
5. Click **Add** and in the "Product" field select the first component.
6. Specify the "Quantity": how many units of the component go into one set (for example, 4 chairs in a set with a table).
7. Fill in the "Cost share" (see below).
8. Click the green **Confirm** button (check mark) at the end of the row.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 for all components and click **Save**.

> [!WARNING] The "Kit" mode (like "[Dropshipping](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/sales/dropshipping/)") can only be turned on when the product is created. After the first save it cannot be changed; if you forgot the check box, create a new card.

## How to calculate cost shares

The cost share shows what part of the kit price each component makes up; the field is required. Enter the value manually or click **Calculate cost shares** above the table and choose an option:

| Option | How the cost is distributed |
|---|---|
| "By equal shares" | 100% is divided equally among all components |
| "By cost price" | In proportion to the purchase price of the components; recommended for accurate profit accounting |

Components added to a kit must already exist in the "Products and services" directory: you cannot create them on the fly on the "Kit contents" tab.

## What happens when a kit is sold

After creation, a kit is added to documents as a regular item. In a [customer order](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/sales/customer-order/), all components are reserved (see [Reserving products](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/sales/reserves/)), and on sale they are written off in the specified quantity. The owner sees the current stock balances for each component, and in the "Products and services" list the kit is marked with a separate icon.

If a set has to be made in advance rather than put together at the time of sale, use [assembly](https://bimpsoft.com/en/help/production/assembly/).

## FAQ

**Can I turn a regular product into a kit?**

No. The "Kit" mode can only be turned on when the card is created. After the first save it cannot be changed; you need to create a new card.

**Can I create a kit component right on the "Kit contents" tab?**

No. Components must be created in the "Products and services" directory beforehand; in a kit you only select them.

**What is a cost share in a kit?**

It is a required field: what part of the kit price each component makes up. Fill it in manually or click "Calculate cost shares": by equal shares or by cost price.
