Service specification: a materials template for typical jobs
On this page
A service specification is a template of the materials that a typical service always needs (for example, "Air conditioner installation"). Create it in "Directories → Specifications" with the type "Service" and the norms on the "Product composition" tab, and the Work order will pull in the required materials by itself.
Why you need a service specification
A service specification describes the typical set of materials for a service that are needed in the same quantity every time. The manager only chooses the service, and Bimp pulls in the list of materials. This speeds up documentation and prevents small items (fasteners, foam) from being forgotten, which would otherwise overstate the profit.
Example. The service “Air conditioner installation” needs 3 m of copper pipe, 1 bracket, 4 bolts and 0.5 m of insulation. These norms are entered in the specification once.
How to create a service specification
- Open Directories → Specifications and click Create.
- On the left, in the “Finished product name” field, enter the service name, for example “Air conditioner installation”.
- In the “Service qty” field, enter 1 — the norms are calculated per one service.
- Set the “Type” switch to Service.
- Go to the “Product composition” tab and click Add. Choose from the products all the materials needed for the service.
- In the “Qty / pcs” column, specify the consumption norm per one service for each material.
- Click Save and close.

Where the specification is used
The specification is used in a Work order: choose this specification in the service row and click ”+” next to the service, and the materials tab is filled in by the norms. Based on this list you then create a Warehouse defect list, and the actual costs are written off to the cost price of the service. Production specifications for products are described in Specifications.
FAQ
Does a service specification create a product in the warehouse?
No. Unlike a production specification, a specification with the type "Service" only describes the materials that are written off while the work is done, and does not post a finished product.
What happens if I leave the type "Product"?
Bimp will treat the specification as a production one and expect you to make the product and put it in the warehouse. For services, always choose the type "Service".
