Importing price lists from Excel: bulk price updates
On this page
To load prices from Excel, open "Warehouse → Data import → Run data import", turn on "Customer price list" on the "Settings" tab, choose creating a new price list or updating an existing one and the way to search for products (preferably by SKU), upload the file and map the columns "Product > SKU" and "Price list > Price".
When to use a price import
A price import from Excel is suitable when you need to update many prices at once or create a new price list with hundreds of items: a seasonal increase, an exchange rate change, a new supplier price list. Bimp finds the products in the file, sets their prices from the given date, and the old prices stay in the history.
Example. The clothing shop “FashionStyle” has 2,000 items whose prices go up on September 1. The manager prepares a file with two columns, “SKU” and “New price”, chooses “Update existing price list”, specifies the date 01.09 and uploads it. Bimp finds the products by SKU and sets the new prices, which become active on the specified date.
How to import a price list
The import is done in the “Data import” section and consists of several steps.
- Open Warehouse → Data import and click Run data import.
- Go to the “Settings” tab and turn on the “Customer price list” switch. The “Price list” block appears below. Choose a mode:
- Create new — for a new type of prices: enter the “Price list name”, the “Default price list currency” and the “Price list date” (the date from which the prices apply);
- Update existing — choose a price list from the list and the “Price list date”. The date can be in the future: the new prices activate automatically on that day.
- In the “Product search” block, choose how Bimp will match products: by SKU (recommended), by barcode or by name (if you do not keep SKUs).
- Go to the “File” tab, upload the Excel file and click “Next”.
- In the preview window, map the columns: map the product column to the field Product > SKU (or “Name”), and the price column to the field Price list > Price. If the file has a currency column, map it too; if not, the prices get the currency from the settings.
- Click Load data. Bimp reports how many items were updated.

Which product search method to choose
The most reliable search method is by SKU: it does not create duplicates.
| Method | When to use | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| By SKU | SKUs are kept (recommended) | minimal |
| By barcode | records are kept by barcodes | a product without a barcode will not be found |
| By name | there are no SKUs | the name in the file must match Bimp exactly, character for character, otherwise the price is not updated; uniqueness of SKUs is not checked, so duplicates may be created |
| By name and SKU | rarely | both fields must match; if they do not, Bimp creates a new product |
The format for importing products and stock is described in Importing products and stock from Excel; an overview of all imports is in What you can import into Bimp.
FAQ
What is the best way to search for products when importing prices?
By SKU. It is the most reliable method and does not create duplicates. Searching by name requires the name to match exactly, character for character.
Can I load prices in advance?
Yes. Specify a future "Price list date": the old prices apply until that date, and the new ones activate automatically. Old prices stay in the history.
What happens if the file has no currency column?
Bimp assigns the prices the currency you chose in the import settings.
Why did duplicate products appear after the import?
Most likely the search was by name, or by name and SKU together: if there is no match, Bimp creates a new product. Use search by SKU.
