Searching and scanning serial numbers: common problems
On this page
Serial number search in Bimp works only on an exact match: you must enter all characters, including the letters at the start. If a series is missing in the "Movement" tab of the product card, turn on "Show archive". If the scanner does not add a serial product to a return, check the code type, the base document, focus in the "Search by barcode" field and the keyboard layout.
Bimp does not find a product by serial number
Serial number search works strictly on an exact match: the query must match the number in the series card 100%, including all letters, prefixes and digits. Partial search does not work in this field.
Example. The series S345674572860 is registered in the system.
| Query | Result |
|---|---|
| S345674572860 | found |
| 345674572860 (the letter “S” is missing) | not found |
| S34567457286 (the last digit is missing) | not found |
How to fix it. Enter the number in full, with all the letters at the start (S, SN, No). The most reliable way is to scan the barcode or copy the number without extra spaces.
The series is in the warehouse but is not found in the “Movement” tab
If a search in the Warehouse section finds the series but the “Movement” tab of the product card does not, the series is in the archive. Archived records (the product is already sold, written off or moved to the archive manually) are hidden by default.
How to fix it.
- Open the product card and the Movement tab.
- Turn on the Show archive switch.
- Repeat the series search.
All serial numbers are displayed, including those that have left circulation, along with their movement history. For overall warehouse movement, see the Stock movement report.
A serial product cannot be added to a return by scanner
If the scanner does not pull a specific unit of a product into the Customer return document (see Customer return), check the following in order:
- Code type. Scan the serial number of a specific unit, not the general product barcode.
- Base document. The series must have been shipped under the same “Sales of goods and services” document that the return is being created for.
- Field focus. Before scanning, the cursor must be in the “Search by barcode” field, not in another field or filter.
- Product barcode. Make sure you are scanning the right product and that its barcode or linked information has not been changed.
- Keyboard layout. The scanner imitates key presses. If the code contains letters and another layout is on (for example, Cyrillic), the code is read incorrectly: scan with the layout in which the barcode is written.

FAQ
Why does Bimp not find a product by serial number?
Series search works on the exact match principle: the query must fully match the recorded number, including letters and prefixes (S, SN, No). Partial search does not work.
Why is a series found in the "Warehouse" section but not in the "Movement" tab of the product card?
The series is probably in the archive (the product was sold, written off or moved to the archive). In the "Movement" tab, turn on the "Show archive" switch.
Why does the scanner not add a serial product to a Customer return?
Check that you are scanning the serial number of the unit, not the general product barcode; that this series was shipped under the same sale that the return is being created for; that the cursor is in the "Search by barcode" field; and that the keyboard layout matches the code.
