In short

Inventory management in Bimp is a set of directories (warehouses and storage locations) plus documents that change stock balances: stock posting, stock transfer, write-off and stock count. Product balances and reservations are updated automatically from all sales, purchasing and production documents. Start with the "Warehouses" directory and the "Stock control" setting, then create inventory documents in the "Warehouse" section.

What Bimp inventory management includes

Bimp inventory management consists of directories (warehouses, storage locations), stock movement documents and accounting settings. All of it is available in the Warehouse section and in Directories. All articles in this section are listed on the “Warehouse” page.

How documents affect balances

Every inventory document changes the balance in a specific warehouse as of the document date. Stock posting increases the balance, write-off decreases it, and stock transfer decreases the balance in the source warehouse and increases it in the destination warehouse. A stock count does not change balances by itself: you close the difference with Stock posting and Write-off documents created based on it.

Other modules work with the same balances: a Customer order reserves goods (see Stock reservation), a sales document writes them off, and a receipt from a supplier posts them. The movement of each product is shown in the Stock movement report.

Additional features

  • Product variants (size, color, weight): records are kept for each variant, see Variants.
  • Warehouse managers: the warehouse card names a responsible employee.
  • Access by warehouse: you can open only the needed warehouses to an employee, see Employee access to warehouses.
  • Change history: inventory documents keep a record of who edited what.
  • Barcode scanner: write-offs and serial number entry can be done by scanning.

Setup order

  1. Create warehouses and, if needed, storage locations.
  2. Set up stock control.
  3. Add products: Products and services.
  4. Enter opening balances.
  5. For serial-tracked products, set up serial number tracking.

FAQ

Where do I start setting up inventory management in Bimp?

Create warehouses in the "Warehouses" directory, add storage locations if needed, turn "Stock control" on or off in the accounting settings and enter opening balances. After that, balances change through Stock posting, Stock transfer and Write-off documents, as well as sales and purchasing documents.

Which documents change inventory balances?

Stock posting, Stock transfer, Write-off, Stock count (through the documents created based on it), as well as Goods receipt from suppliers, sales and returns, and production documents.

Can I keep records across several warehouses and stores?

Yes. Warehouses are organized in a hierarchy with groups, and for points of sale you use the "Store" type with its own price list, cash desks and accounts.
